LOCAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
Lemp Mansion

The Lemp Mansion currently serves as a restaurant, hotel, and event venue, but the real intrigue comes from its history. The Lemp family came from Germany in 1838 and began what turned into an extremely successful brewery. Despite building an empire that was once the largest brewery in St. Louis, an unusual amount of tragedy befell the family as the business declined and later shuttered during prohibition. William Lemp, the president of the brewery, mourned the mysterious death of his son Frederick, and later took his life in a bedroom in the mansion. In following years, three more Lemp family members died of self inflicted wounds as well (two of them within the mansion). These tragedies have made Lemp Mansion a very popular destination for ghost tours. This weekend, two Halloween parties are taking place in this truly haunted house: Lemp Mansion Haunted House Party on Friday (hosted by the organization Friends of Kids with Cancer) and Lemp Mansion Halloween Bash on Saturday.
