LOCAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK:
River City Outdoors

The mission of River City Outdoors is simple: help everyone in the region access nature, trails, rivers, and gear without the usual barriers. They believe that outdoor recreation is for whole community. Through their Gear Lending Library, St. Louis residents and nonprofit organizations can borrow over 950 pieces of camping, hiking, paddling, and backpacking gear for free. They organize guided excursions and land & water trips across the region’s rivers and lakes through Big Muddy Adventures, a company you may recognize from their rentals at the Boathouse in Forest Park.

They also host the annual Gateway Outdoor Expo + Summit in St. Charles Nov 14-16. The big showcase of outdoor gear, demo booths, and interactive sessions is free-entry and fun for all ages. Stay tuned for more information about this event in next week’s newsletter. 

🌟 Festival Fever: Three Highlights You Shouldn’t Miss

  • 🎼 Cherokee Street Jazz Crawl (Saturday Nov. 8) – This all‑day festival fills Cherokee Street with swing dancers, brass bands and blues musicians. Morning, mid‑day and happy‑hour sets take place at multiple venues (10 am–12 pm, 12:30–2:30 pm and 4–6 pm). Don’t miss the Second Line Parade (2:30–4 pm) led by the Saint Boogie Brass Band, free dance lessons at Love Bank Park and an all‑styles dance battle & Grand Finale with Sweetie & The Toothaches at The Golden Record – the only ticketed portion.

  • 🎖️ St. Charles Salutes Veterans Day Celebration (Saturday Nov. 8) – Honor veterans with a parade at 11 am down historic Main Street, followed by a ceremony at the memorial and a family‑friendly celebration from noon–5 pm in the Lewis & Clark Boathouse parking lot. The festival features informational booths, local food trucks, craft vendors, live music and a spectacular fireworks show.

  • 🎉 Full Moon Festival at Schlafly Bottleworks (Saturday Nov. 8) – Schlafly’s free harvest party runs noon–8 pm. Beyond live music, you can sample limited‑release beers, vote in a chili cook‑off, enjoy a pig roast and browse vendor booths for local crafts. The relaxed vibe welcomes kids and dogs.

Friday, November 7th

  • 🎬 St. Louis International Film Festival- SLIFF 2025 spans 11 days and 17 theaters through November 16th. The festival will feature more than 250 films and open with a screening of A Man with Sole: The Impact of Kenneth Cole, with Kenneth Cole in attendance.

  • 💃 New Works Festival COCA (Staenberg Performance Lab at COCA)- This performance highlights COCA’s Choreographic Lab, which helps grow the talent of new and upcoming artists. Arpége Lundyn is this year’s choreographer, selected to work with COCA’s pre-professional artists and a team of mentors to bring their performance to the stage.

  • 🎵 Riley Green – Damn Country Music Tour (Chaifetz Arena) – Country star Riley Green brings his hits “There Was This Girl,” “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” and new songs from his 2025 album to Chaifetz. Expect sing‑along choruses, heartfelt ballads and an opening set by rising country acts. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Concert at 6:45 pm.

  • 🐶 Dog Man the Musical (Stifel Theater)- The popular Dog Man book series is brought to life in this hilarious musical. Kids will see their favorite crime fighting Dog Man take on villans such as Petey the Cat and Flippy the cyborg fish, all set to original songs. Showtime is 7 pm.

  • 🪦 Sips, Souls & Strolls: Women Artists of Bellefontaine Cemetery– Don’t miss the last night of Sips, Souls & Strolls of 2025! This special twilight tour spotlights the final resting places of women artists. Guides share stories of their lives while you sip beer or wine and enjoy hors d’oeuvres on the cemetery’s peaceful ground.

Saturday, November 8th

  • 🎷 Cherokee Street Jazz Crawl– The 13th annual Jazz Crawl turns Cherokee Street into a dance floor. Catch musical sets all morning long, then cheer on the Second Line Parade and the afternoon dance battle before the Sweetie & The Toothaches finales. All performances are free except the evening finale. 10 am - 8 pm.

  • 🏅 St. Charles Salutes Veterans Day Celebration – March down Main Street with veterans and marching bands at 11 am. After a ceremony honoring service members, enjoy live country and rock bands, local barbecue and craft vendors, kids’ activities and a fireworks send‑off. Parade 11 am. Festival noon-5 pm.

  • 🇺🇸 Annual Veterans Day Parade and Celebration (Soldier’s Memorial Military Museum)- Honor the veterans who have served our country by attending the parade starting at 10:30 am through downtown, ending at the south steps of Soldier's Memorial. A ceremony at the memorial will follow the parade at 11:30 am.

  •  Laumeier After Dark (Laumeier Sculpture Park) – After dark, Laumeier glows with light‑based art installations, illuminated sculptures and immersive projection. Shop at the Night Market, sip local brews and cocktails and enjoy live music on the lawn; tickets are $15 and the event is rain or shine. 4-10 pm.

  • 🛍️ Tower Grove Farmers Market – FINAL WEEKEND! Start your day by browsing farm‑fresh produce, baked goods, flowers and handmade crafts in Tower Grove Park before the market closes for the winter. 8 am-12:30 pm.

  • 🎻 Powell Hall Community Open House- Have you wanted to see the newly renovated Powell Hall? This is your chance to enjoy a free tour of the beautiful new space. At the open house, more than 15 local music organizations will perform throughout the day. A fun zone for kids and special performance for young chirldren make this an event for the whole family. 10 am- 6 pm.

    Sunday, November 9th

  • 🎄 Webster Groves Holiday Open House – Support the wonderful businesses along and near Lockwood Ave. at Webster Groves’ annual holiday open house. Carriage rides can transport you along the charming street as you watch carolers sing and even catch a glimpse of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Get started on your holiday shopping, and grab a bite to eat in one of many delicious restaurants.

  • 💕 The Notebook (Fox Theater)- See Nicholas Sparks’ tear‑jerking romance The Notebook brought to new life on stage with mesmerizing songs and choreography. Showing daily November 4-16.

  • 🎭The Brothers Size (The Repertory Theater) – immerse yourself in Tarell Alvin McCraney’s gripping tale of brothers navigating freedom and identity at the Repertory Theatre. 2 pm.

  • 🎺 Youth/Family Jazz Concert (Steward Center) – Jazz St. Louis is delighted to bring jazz to the youth of St. Louis in an accessible way. This matinee performance is free of charge and go beyond a captivating performance. The concert becomes an interactive experience, introducing kids to multiple styles of jazz. Showtime is 3:30 pm.

  • 🕯️ Candlelight: Best of Joe Hisaishi (E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee Theater) – Spend the evening listening to beloved Studio Ghibli melodies (from Spirited Away to Princess Mononoke) performed surrounded by candlelight. 8:45 pm.
