The Tennessee Williams Festival

The Tennessee Williams Festival St. Louis is thrilled to announce Appropriate by Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins as the mainstage production in their 11th season. After a decade of producing Tennessee Williams' work, this season, they are excited to present "The Tennessee Effect", a festival focused on Tennessee's legacy through a new lens. This season, they are highlighting the contemporary voices in the American Theatre that are shaped by Tennessee's legacy.

The Tony Award, Obie Award, and Drama Desk Award-winning play "Appropriate" takes the spotlight as the main stage production. Similar to Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, Appropriate explores themes of fractured family relationships, inheritance, memory, and the uneasy presence of the past and its impact on the future. Appropriate celebrated a Broadway run in 2024, winning two Tony Awards, one for Best Actress for Sarah Paulson, and another for Best Revival of a Play.

The TWStL production will be directed by Benny Sato Ambush, a veteran professional SDC stage director, institutional theatre leader, educator, published commentator, and consultant.

The production will take place September 17 - 27th, 2026, at the Berges Theatre at COCA.
