Established in 1853 by railroad surveyor James P. Kirkwood 15 miles west of downtown St. Louis, Kirkwood is the St. Louis region’s oldest planned commuter town. This tour will begin with Kirkwood’s origins as an affluent city and trace its growth to the 21st century as it evolved into one of St. Louis’s most interesting suburbs. See its charming downtown, visit the Jefferson-Argonne historic homes district, and interact with a community that has navigated great challenges and triumphs over the past 170 years.
